With the help of a team of psychologists, he began recording a new face on a set he recorded using a smartphone app: A Face-Off. The app, called Bizarre Face, features an image of a grinning head at one end of the screen and two blank faces at the other, with a tiny image of a red dot at the other end.

"It works pretty well," Caine says. "You can do it as normal, but at night I can't keep it to a certain size."

When Caine first tried the app, he couldn't find anything. Later, during a video chat while recording with a friend who was a psychologist, he realized he was having problems with the face.

"My face looked like this: There was a red dot on the black side; there was all this yellow that was on the black side. I could see the dark lines all over my face, but I couldn't tell if there was blood or something and the black veins seemed a little weird. I tried to hide it from them because I hadn't yet figured out why they did it. Now I finally figure out why and I'm really glad I did."
