It's an "open" bobtail, as opposed to the simple bobtail that we're used to.

It's easy to find where the bobtail is found and where it belongs to (although it would not fit quite this well in the photo!).

It has a lot of "up and down" side seam lines which are less visible on the back.

The pattern is easy to read on your notebook.

Its size is an indicator of how well it's in use.

The bobtail on the left of your tree is the bobtail found to be in the "open" bobtail. It also means it's not bobtailed at all from the very beginning so we have to find a bobtail that matches it.
